A glimpse into the woman “Binodini” in “Chokher Bali” by Rabindranath Tagore.

A passing glimpse into the life of Binodini seems sparkling white or rather pale and dull. But a white saree draped around a young body of a woman could not subside any of her emotions, desires, jealousy and passion. The character Binodini in  Chokher Bali, Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (Television series) is a woman of colors in an ever present white.

A status quo of being a young widow in a society where being and living married is the highest order in feminine social hierarchy, was much too challenging for Binodini. With that comes the insecurity of being graded less and rather replaced by another woman or rejected by man.

The spotless color of the saree could not hide her inquisitiveness to win the race of feminine social hierarchy. So here is a woman competing with another woman to win the game and instead win man.

The psychological analysis of woman done by Tagore jii in the story Chokher Bali is much appreciating and much too is the series presented on screen by Anurag Basu.

Tossed and turned by the highs and lows of emotions as insecurity, jealousy, abandonment and helplessness comes a character called Binodini.

Chokher Bali (Speck in the Eye; 1901 novella) (Wikipedia,31 July 2021) is the irritation Binodini has in her sight seeing a woman she was replaced or rejected for. It is important in a game to scale the opponent for a planned victory. Binodini does the same. The story magnifies beauty and brain. Binodini culminates into that one who is a step ahead in the race for the intellectual flavour and smartness she carries in her fate rather in her mind.
